When viewing the detailed information in JMU Library Catalog about a book, video, or other item that is checked out, click on the Request button to place a hold on an item. Then:

  • Once the request is processed, the item displays in JMU Library Catalog as Due+1 Hold. It also shows up in My Library Account record as a hold placed. You can cancel it there, if you'd like.
  • Our Public Services Department asks the patron who currently has the item checked out to return the item (i.e. we "recall" the item), but only if the patron has had it out for at least 3 weeks.
  • When the other patron returns the item, you receive an e-mail notifying you that it is available to pick up at the location you specified at the time of the request.
