Browse our physical and digital book collections side by side

Browse: Use Virtual Browse to see our 1.6 million ebooks and our physical books side by side. If you only look at the shelves, you’ll miss over half our collection! 

Request: You can submit Delivery Services requests even when we are closed, and we will deliver the items to the selected locations when we open.

Special Collections: You can search and browse our Special Collections materials in the library catalog or the archives and manuscripts database and request a future appointment to use them. 

Plan ahead to use library materials or equipment

Before a JMU closure, you can check out or request materials and equipment to help you move your research forward:

• Our general collections: Request delivery of JMU Libraries books (and other physical items) to your campus mailbox (1-3 days in advance)
• Scan and Deliver: Request scanned articles or book chapters from our general collections (1-3 days in advance)
• Interlibrary Loan: Request articles and materials from other libraries via Interlibrary Loan (7-10 days in advance)
• Special Collections: Submit a Remote Digitization Request for Special Collections materials (up to 5 weeks in advance)
• Equipment: You can check out equipment such as computers, peripherals, recording devices, and more (reserve in advance or visit the Learning Innovations & Design Desk)

Make progress on data collection and analysis, writing, publishing, etc.

Some of our offerings beyond library materials can support your scholarly work. Even when our facilities are closed, you can: 

• Download or learn about research software, such as SPSS or NVivo.
• Learn more about research methods or data analysis: visit Sage Research Methods or JoVE or LinkedIn Learning.
• Learn about effective data management and our data services.
• Find a journal for publication.
• View LinkedIn Learning videos about podcasting, open data, or other forms of sharing information.
• Brainstorm research topics or explore existing research with our databases, ebooks, data sets, and other online resources.
