How do faculty and staff set up their Poll Everywhere web portal account using the JMU Enterprise account?
Answer
- Create your Poll Everywhere “Presenter” account:
- Visit www.PollEverywhere.com:
- If you have a Poll Everywhere Presenter account using your @jmu.edu address, select “Log in.”
- If you do not have a Poll Everywhere Presenter account using your @jmu.edu email address, select “Sign Up” then choose “I’m a Presenter” and follow the instructions.
- If you already have a personal/free account with Poll Everywhere using your @jmu.edu email address and would like it to be merged with the JMU enterprise account, please contact LIDdesk@jmu.edu with this request.
- Visit www.PollEverywhere.com:
- Sync your Canvas Course(s) with your Poll Everywhere account:
- On your Canvas Course page(s), go to “Course Settings > Navigation.” Click and drag the “Poll Everywhere” tab up into the list of active tabs.
- Click on the Poll Everywhere tab from your Canvas Course’s navigation bar.
- When prompted, be sure to "Allow all" third-party cookies from Poll Everywhere - this is necessary for Canvas and Poll Everywhere to exchange information. After following these steps, if you were not prompted to accept cookies and your Canvas Course is not recognized within Poll Everywhere, go to the Privacy and Security tab in your Internet browser settings and either clear your cookies or add Poll Everywhere as an excepted website to collect third-party cookies. Then try clicking the Poll Everywhere tab in your Canvas Course again.
- If you have not already logged in to Poll Everywhere from another tab, you will be presented with a message stating “Log in to use the LMS integration.” If you have already logged in to Poll Everywhere and still receive this message, refresh the web page.
- If your Canvas Course is connected to Poll Everywhere, the Poll Everywhere button on your Canvas Course will show you the name of your Canvas Course along with an option to “Add Gradebook” and “Sync Roster.” Selecting the “Sync Roster” option will send an invite to all the students in your Canvas Course and add them to a Poll Everywhere Group named after your Course. This should also “Register” these students to the James Madison University Poll Everywhere account if they haven’t already registered while taking a previous course.
- Ensure your students are registering for Poll Everywhere correctly:
- Students can either use the Poll Everywhere link on the Course Navigation Bar or go directly to www.pollEV.com to sign up for a Participant account using their @dukes.jmu.edu email address. They should ideally not sign up at www.polleverywhere.com.
- If the student is also a JMU employee and has both a @jmu.edu email address and a @dukes.jmu.edu email address, they will need to bypass the JMU SSO when logging in to Poll Everywhere. Direct them to use their @dukes.jmu.edu email address and select the option to "Use password instead" when logging in/signing up for Poll Everywhere.
- We recommend you set up a persistent Test Activity by “Pinning” an Activity that requires students to be registered to view. Students can then test whether they are able to participate correctly outside of class.
- Students can either use the Poll Everywhere link on the Course Navigation Bar or go directly to www.pollEV.com to sign up for a Participant account using their @dukes.jmu.edu email address. They should ideally not sign up at www.polleverywhere.com.
